Ireland’s first railway line was established between Dublin and Kingstown (Dún Laoghaire) in 1834 but did not arrive in County Cavan until the 1850s. The Midland and Great Western Railway company connected Inny Junction in County Westmeath to Cavan Town, thus also linking Cavan to Dublin.
This exhibition documents the rise of a new age of travel which transformed people’s lives, feeding into a period of great social and political change in Ireland.
