Details
Leader, soldier, husband, father - Major-General Oliver Nugent is best known for his command of the 36th (Ulster) Division during the First World War and particularly at the Battle of the Somme.
During World War 1 men were cut down in their thousands while widows were left to look after the children back home. Cavan, with the rest of Ulster, paid a terrible price. Farren Connell in Mountnugent, Co Cavan was Nugent’s refuge from the horrors of trench warfare.
