Visit the National Library of Ireland’s new travelling banner exhibition, Portraits of the Invisible at Cavan County Museum, created under the auspices of the EU Presidency of Ireland. This poignant exhibition of portrait photographs, from the National Photographic Archive, explores the experiences of Irish servicemen, medics, nurses and non-combatants from across Ireland during World War 1. Movingly, these portraits were donated by the families of each featured individual and digitised during the NLI’s World War I Roadshows in collaboration with the Europeana online archive.
Funded as part of the Culture Programme for Ireland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2026.
