A rehearsed reading of a new play by Tara Maria Lovett, performed by Clare Monnelly and Aonghus Og McAnally. Where did the chair come from? Who sat in it? Who owns it? What stories will it reveal?
The play is set against the backdrop of the War of Independence in Cavan. The chair is a wedding gift from Hugh to his wife Aggiee. Rescued from the burning of a big house in Cavan as the war escalates, the chair will haunt Hugh, Aggiee and their descendant. The Whispering Chair explores the struggle for both identity and survival in Ireland over one hundred years.
Lovett’s play is part of a mentorship opportunity with the dramaturg Pamela McQueen. Booking is essential, call 049 854 4070.
